tea time at the greenhouse jefferson hotel

Pin It Now!
asos dress
Having watched the characters of Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs, and Cranford, ceaselessly gobbling scones and downing gallons of tea, I fancied myself a cup in town. I wanted a "proper" tea time with all the proper accoutrements. So off to The Greenhouse at the Jefferson hotel we went! The earl gray was the best I've had, the scones light and fluffy so unlike the ones I'm used to, and the cherry preserves to die for. And to boot I made Sean put on a proper suit so I could live out my British period drama fantasy!

On the drive back we popped off the GW parkway to enjoy a stunning sunset over the Potomac. The perfect end to a fabulous afternoon tea.

feeling festive

Pin It Now!
how to wear a crop top
Nothing like a red skirt to make you feel festive during the holidays. This was of course taken before christmas, but as always I'm late with my posts. I've been searching for a knit crop top all winter long and found one at urban outfitters of all places. It was in the "lingerie" section and is actually a "bralette" but I'll let that slide. And no belly button is shown to tone down the somewhat nakedness.

flocks of feathers

Pin It Now!
DSC_5012.jpg

I love feathers. I'm obsessed with feathers...put feathers on it and I will buy it. This all started about 3 years ago when I spotted a feathered skirt by Robert Rodriguez at Nordstrom while wedding dress shopping with a friend (not my wedding). I looked at it longingly as I walked by it and my friend said "that's so you." But no I was not willing to spend $400 bucks on it, I have some self control. That obsession though kept gnawing at me and sent me on a 2 day google search of similar skirts to which ended at ASOS with an ostrich skirt which I love and have worn to death. I try not to wear it too much since I lose feathers every time I do...soon I will be bald.

As luck would have it while perusing ASOS once again, low and behold I come across a feather dress! Yes I had to buy it, and yes I did wait for it to go on sale, and yes I did have a coupon code! It arrived...and was perfection. I felt like a glorified peacock fanning out my feathers for display while wearing it. And yes I did lose feathers, so I'll have to save this one for special occasions only!

over the knee

over the knee boots

I tried on a great many OTK boots before finally settling on this pair. It was hard finding a pair that didn't remind me of a pirate or a street walker. And unlike my exploding collection of ankle boots, I only own one pair of otk boots, simplifying the whole getting dressed thing when I'm in the mood to wear them.

masquerade

Pin It Now!
DSC_4504-Edit.jpg

For new years eve we ended up going to a masquerade ball and as usual everything was last minute. Including my mask which ended up being just a scrap of lace edging tied behind my head. It was impossible to see so I took it off almost immediately, but the effect was kind of cool and tempered my space aged liquid metal dress which needed a last minute hemming right before leaving to be an appropriately short dress.

thanksgiving orange

Pin It Now!

There's something about Thanksgiving and fall in general that sparks the need to wear orange in me. This dress was last seen here as pretty much a skirt. I've only worn it as an actual maxi dress in summer once, it seems to lend itself better to posing as a high waist skirt. DSC_0864.jpg DSC_0870.jpg DSC_0866.jpg DSC_0871.jpg DSC_0868.jpg
