I don't prefer turtlenecks, the constrictive feeling around my neck is not pleasant unless in the softest cashmere or in this case loose and chunky.

gift wrapping ideas
Pin It Now!
I've always loved wrapping gifts. Something about the straight folds reminds me of the complex oragimi figures I made as a child.
This year though, after spending way too much time on pinterest, I changed it up a bit. No bows, no christmas themed wrapping paper, instead I used left over yarn and lace I had laying around the house to dress up my presents and a big roll of plain brown paper from home depot.
I love how they turned out, especially the combination of textures between the lace and yarn pom poms.

isabel marant berry inspired boots
Pin It Now!
The isabel marant berry boots, while very beautiful, are a bit trendy for my taste. I spotted some pretty decent knock offs from Zara here and here that could fit the bill for an embroidered boot. And even better, they are on sale and going fast!

rag & bone newbury inspired boots
Pin It Now!
I stumbled upon these Vince Camuto Hadley boots that are pretty much an exact knock off of the much sought after Rag & Bone Newbury boots.
And at less than a quarter of the price on sale at Nordstrom, I had to get them. Hurry if you want them, it looks like the black ones are almost all sold out! I originally wanted black but I have soooo many black boots I opted for the grey/beige for spring summer wear. And having just tried these babies on, I can attest they are super comfortable and cushy unlike some of the cheaper designer knock offs I've seen.
My ankle boot closet is beyond stuffed now!

those red boots
Pin It Now!
Oxblood or burgundy, whatever you want to call it, deep rich reds seem to be the color of the season. These booties caught my attention immediately at the H&M and Tysons. I had seen them online, but not in stores.
They only had a size 37 left which are slightly too big, but I got them anyway! Paired with all neutrals here to make the boots really pop.

Floral Friday

I'm still obsessed with making paper roses. The one above was made using heavy weight watercolor paper following Martha Stewart's tutorial, except I used staples instead of the paste. I just didn't have any "paste" only Elmer's glue which was only useful if I held it for 10 minutes, waiting for it to dry. I do not have that kind of patience.
The frayed edges and ginormous scale are what drew me to this particular rose. The graphic appeal of over sized paper flowers always seem to pull me in. And if a paper flower can have that perfect "undone" look then this rose would be it!

I searched for ages for a plain brown belt with an unobtrusive buckle, mission not accomplished, until I wondered into the men's department at H&M looking for a belt for sean. So many things can be easily solved by going to the men's department of stores.

south moon under party like a fashion blogger party!
Pin It Now!
South Moon Under threw a wonderful holiday party last Thursday to celebrate the video release of their blogger styled looks. The video was a collaborative effort between The President Wears Prada, Spicy Candy DC, and the bloggers behind Fabulously Broke and A Loyal Love.
I had a wonderful time and can't wait until another event! To boot I scored a basic black clutch for 20% off I've been searching ages for.

The sweater last seen here is still one of my all time favorites. Worn this time as a shirt and not as a dress.

floral fridays
Pin It Now!
I've become quite addicted to making coffee filter roses. These are made using a combination of techniques from Craftberry Bush and Martha Stewart.
I wasn't thrilled with how the roses from Craftberry turned out. They didn't look like roses to me but I loved the swirly center.
So I ended up using the Craftberry method only for the center. I didn't follow Martha's directions exactly either. First I used regular coffee filters instead of the cones. I cut a continuous string of petals instead of individual petals so putting it together would be easier.
I'm really happy with the way these turned out! The would be great for a wedding center piece and decorations. They look really good with the sandblasted manzanita branches too!

I bought this coat from zara last year and wore a tons, just never got around to photographing it. Originally I wanted the black one, but it sold out so quickly so I settled for the old man checker and now I'm glad I did.
These boots were an impulse buy from zara too last year, and again I had wished they were black, but again I'm kinda glad they're a dark "oxblood" like red. Who knew it would be "the color" of the season. I am wise beyond my years.

thanksgiving orange
Pin It Now!
There's something about Thanksgiving and fall in general that sparks the need to wear orange in me. This dress was last seen here as pretty much a skirt. I've only worn it as an actual maxi dress in summer once, it seems to lend itself better to posing as a high waist skirt.
