running in the forest

Pin It Now! DSC_0265.jpg
On a lazy Sunday afternoon following copious amounts of christmas leftovers and a run to target for necessities, we thought it would be fun to run around the forest in the light snow. I love how the path was covered w/ a light dusting of white powder and not yet treaded on when we got there.  Hope everyone has a safe and fun new years!

updo

Pin It Now!
(Picture from marthastewardweddings.com)

I recently went to a wedding and was at a loss as to what to do with my hair. Until I found this wedding hair tutorial on Martha's site posted by a cup of jo. My hair's longer than the model's so it didn't come out quite the same. But I really liked the look, somewhere between messy and formal. I was in two weddings this year and this was better than when I had my hair done by professionals. Probably because I prefer a more undone look that the salons didn't really do.

ice skating

Pin It Now! DSC_0208.jpg

For about 5 years now I've wanted to go to the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden for some outdoor ice skating.  I always attempted to go, but never actually got there before the end of the season.  Well this year I was determined!  And I made it, on a very cold windy day.  At least it was sunny out...

Even though the rink is small something about being outdoors made the experience magical and got me in the christmas spirit (not to mention the non stop holiday glee music the bf has been playing in the car).

bad santa...a clever gift wrap idea

Pin It Now! DSC_0615
Every year we've traditionally done a secret santa gift exchange accompanied by a bad santa gift exchange.  Since this is usually a gag gift under 10 dollars, the first year I just gave some christmas underwear wrapped in news paper with red marker writing about how much this present sucked.  I was extremely sick and didn't even realize I had used a murder story as the wrap.  The whole thing ended up being hilarious.  The second year I did the same thing, except I used wrapping paper over the newspaper to disguise the gift.  And to make it extra scary I cut out letters from magazines instead of writing on the newspaper.  The same person ended up getting the underwear gift as the previous year!  What a coincidence!  So now it's become a running joke and tradition as to who will get my underwear gift this year.  To up the ante in disguising my gift, I thought it would be clever to hide in a book by hollowing it out.  We'll see how that goes when the exchange happens.

its that sweater dress again

Pin It Now! It's great owning a piece of clothing that you can go out in and lounge around at home in.  That's what this large sweater tunic from forever21 has been for me.  I can never find the right length for a sweater dress, but this tunic in a large was perfect.  I've been wearing it all over the place with my jeffrey campbell denmark boots.  On another note these boots are so comfortable and even the inside is lined in fur.  I spent a whole weekend walking around in them here.

waffles for breakfast

Pin It Now!
DSC_0809

Having received a waffle maker as a birthday gift, my boyfriend decided to try his pancake recipe as a waffle recipe. I'd say it was okay, but a bit dry. The piles of fresh whipped cream and strawberries however made up for it!  The best part was the cooking process, it filled the kitchen with a creamy eggy smell that I love.  It totally reminds me of these egg cakes you buy on the street in Asia and NYC.

random sushi

Pin It Now! My best friend randomly called me up friday night and proclaimed she needed a drink. So we ended up trying a japanese restaurant in bethesda neither of us have been to and finishing off a bottle of saki. They had some pretty good izakaya choices for Maryland, but the meatballs on sticks were my favorite. Also saw tons of people sucking down bowls of steaming hot ramen.  Gotta try it next time I go, I'm still on the hunt for the best ramen place in the DC Metro area.  Temari and Ren's are both okay, but they just don't compare to Socal and NYC ramen places.

One guy actually said I was brave for having bare legs while i was taking a photo on the street. It was only about 30 degrees out I think...somehow it seemed warmer when I had left the house.

These are the same sequin shorts as seen here. The stripe top actually exactly matches a striped cardigan my friend has, they look so similar that I thought we had the same shirt on.

fur....

Pin It Now! Since Thanksgiving it's been an endless stream of birthdays, parties, and events almost every weekend non stop.  When did life get so busy?

I've been really into fur lately, vests, jackets, wraps.  Lots of petting goes on whenever I wear a fur piece.

pancakes for breakfast

Pin It Now! DSC_0742

My favorite pancakes have always been made by my boyfriend using a recipe from a guest chef on Martha Stewart's show. It involves whipping the egg whites to stiff peaks which adds an airiness to the pancakes.  Top with a pad of butter and warm syrup and  you have a sweet breakfast treat.  I've looked for the recipe to link online but can't find it.If anyone wants the recipe just leave a message.
